Project Outline

The Hawthorns School is a co-educational day school for children aged 2 – 13 years, the additional of a new nursery school will provide further opportunities for young children to learn and grow. The current nursery only has capacity to provide for up to 40 children. However, the new nursery school will enable The Hawthorne School to increase the nursery capacity to accommodate up to 80 children to try and meet the current childcare demands.

Acting as Planning Agents for the application WS Planning & Architecture liaised with the applicants, preferred partners, and other consultants to pull together the submission as well as producing a detailed Planning, Design and Access Statement to support the application. The site had a number of constraints to consider in the application process, part of The Hawthorne School is Pendell Court which is a Grade II listed building and within the Pendell Conservation Area. The site is also located within the Green Belt. Despite this, the proposal was approved with conditions, enabling The Hawthorne a much-needed extension to their nursery school.

COMMENTS

Development proposals in the Green Belt need to adhere to strict policy guidance within the National Planning Policy Framework. When coupled with the Conservation Area designation, this adds further complexity to the case. Working with our Preferred Partners and the skillset of our Planning and Architectural teams we successfully unlocked potential for The Hawthorns School to extend their existing nursery and increase their childcare provision.
