Project Outline
The irregular shape the site located within a residential area comprising detached and semi-detached dwellings provided an opportunity to create a small urban development to the rear of the site, as well as maximising the size of the building on the street scene.
The scheme went through a pre-application process, as well as two planning applications, the latter to achieve permission for the house at the front to 4 flats. As it is often the case, the WS team liaised regularly with the Local Authorities, in particular to overcome the concerns with the under croft and the fire brigade.
The scheme was approved for its subtle modifications to the street scene. Ultimately this traditional approach responding to the local vernacular and with the spatial layout, was seen by the council as a positive addition to the local area hence the two approvals of the applications

COMMENTS
An interesting site with plenty of potential that was maximised by the WS team, it provided a precedent to the local area as potential development to infill large deep plots, whilst delivering a high quality of housing with reasonable amenity area and greenery.
