Max Rayner

Apprentice Architect

Max joined WS in September 2018 as one of only 6 people in the UK undergoing the new Architectural Assistant Apprenticeship. This was a four-year commitment between WS, Max, and London South Bank University. Max works with us 80% of the week and for the remainder he is studying for his Degree at LSBU and undertaking other “off the job” training. Max successfully graduated from his apprenticeship in September 2022. He will now start the second part of his course to become an Architect.

WS were delighted to be approached by such a proactive and mature school leaver and were keen to provide the opportunity for Max to unlock his potential, following this innovative new pathway and pursue his career aspirations by offering him an Apprenticeship.

Max excelled in his role as an Apprentice Architectural Assistant and WS were thrilled when he was selected as a Finalist in the Apprentice of the Year category of the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards 2020 – and even more delighted and pleased when he won! As the Award Judging panel commented “Max is a trail-blazer. He demonstrated an amazing level of resilience in approaching many employers before finally being taken on by WS Planning. His employer can clearly recognise the benefits of taking on an apprentice – both in terms of delivering paid client work but also in fostering wider links with schools and colleges. Max is an excellent ambassador for apprenticeships. He has been thrown in at the deep end, very quickly having to manage his training workload as well as client work – but has more than risen to the challenge.”

Max attended The Beacon School in Banstead and Reigate College.
