Erection of single storey building to provide examination hall, reading rooms and computer room at Woldingham School

Planning

Project Outline

The proposal sought the demolition of the existing examination building and its replacement with a new building that would be the same depth but 10m longer and have a pitched roof. The School lies within the Green Belt and while a like for like replacement would have been acceptable in principle the proposal sought a much larger building rendering the proposal inappropriate development in Green Belt terms. We provided a case for very special circumstances to overcome the harm to the Green Belt and planning permission was granted at local level.

Outcome

Comments

We also provided planning advice on a number of aspects of the school’s Masterplan including a separate application for 6 x 15m high floodlights for use on their all weather pitch and an application to relax a condition attached to a previous permission for the use of the assembly hall for community/public events in each academic year.
